How to distinguish steel core aluminum stranded wire from aluminum stranded wire?

Both steel-cored aluminum stranded wire and aluminum stranded wire are wires without external insulation, which is what we commonly call “bare wires”. People who do not understand the cable industry may not know how to distinguish between steel-cored aluminum stranded wire and aluminum stranded wire. They are all aluminum wires. So, how to distinguish steel core aluminum stranded wire and aluminum stranded wire?

1. Distinguish from the color of the cross section:

From the cross section of the steel-cored aluminum stranded wire, we can clearly see that the color of one or more conductors in the middle will be heavier than the color of the outer layer of aluminum wire, so it is the steel-reinforced aluminum stranded wire, the color of the aluminum stranded wire all the same;

2. Distinguish from the softness and hardness of the wire:

Because of the existence of steel wires inside the steel-cored aluminum stranded wire, the overall hardness will be much stronger than that of the aluminum stranded wire. We can use the method of holding it to distinguish it, while the aluminum stranded wire will be softer;

3. From the weight of the conductor to distinguish:

Because there are steel wires inside the steel-reinforced aluminum stranded wire, we all know that the weight of steel is heavier than aluminum, so it can also be distinguished by weighing.

4. The difference from the model:

The abbreviation of steel-cored aluminum stranded wire: “LGJ” is made of aluminum wire and steel wire, and it is mainly suitable for overhead transmission lines with ordinary aluminum stranded wire “L J”. The interior of the steel-cored aluminum stranded wire is a steel “core”, and the exterior is wound around the steel core with aluminum wires by twisting; the steel core mainly plays the role of increasing strength, and the aluminum stranded wire mainly plays the role of transmitting electric energy. Both belong to bare wires, and they are basically the same in use, but the models and specifications are expressed in different ways.

Ordinary aluminum stranded wire: the model is represented by “L J”, which is a bare wire. At present, aluminum-clad steel strand (LGJ) is generally used as the conductor in China. The steel core mainly plays the role of increasing strength, and the aluminum strand mainly plays the role of transmitting electric energy. Depending on the voltage, the cross-sectional area of the conductor is also different. For example: at present, the conductors of 500 kV transmission lines generally use LGJ-400/35 conductors. Among them, L is the abbreviation of aluminum wire, G is the abbreviation of steel core, J is the abbreviation of stranded wire, 400 is aluminum 400 square millimeters, and 35 is steel 35 square millimeters.

5. Main purpose:

Steel-cored aluminum stranded wire is a reinforced wire with single or multi-layer aluminum stranded wire twisted outside the galvanized steel core wire. Mainly used in electric power and transmission line industry. ACSR has the advantages of simple structure, convenient erection and maintenance, low line cost, large transmission capacity, and is conducive to the laying of special geographical conditions such as across rivers and valleys. It has good electrical conductivity, sufficient mechanical strength, and high tensile strength. , The tower rod distance can be enlarged and so on. Therefore, it is widely used in overhead transmission and distribution lines of various voltage levels.

Generally, for high-voltage transmission lines, due to the limited path of the line, it is impossible to erect multiple lines on one path, so people came up with the idea of using one path, one set of iron towers, and hanging multiple wires, that is, one line is equivalent to erecting multiple wires. method of the line. For example: For 500KV transmission lines, most of China adopts the method of hanging four wires. This method of wiring is called paralleling on the same tower. This is the main reason why some rods used for “L J” also use “LGJ”.
